What can astrology help me with?
I offer psychological astrology as an optional part of my psychotherapy practice; no prior knowledge of astrology is necessary and would only be included with your agreement. If you are already curious, familiar or are an astrologer yourself, psychotherapy is a complementary space to explore the dynamics of your birth chart.
Astrology can give a fresh perspective and helpful insight in periods of change and difficulty and awareness of the current planetary cycles. ‘As Above, so Below’ is the old maxim that means what is above us in space is mirrored on Earth, and when we are conscious of the reciprocal relationship with the cosmos, we can respond more consciously to the events in our lives.
Psychological astrology approaches the birth chart as a symbolic map of the dynamics of the personality you were born with, including inherited influences and potential abilities that can be developed. Furthermore, astrological perspectives of current planetary transits can help highlight themes in your life and relationships, where your strengths and resources are as well as challenges.
How is it relevant to therapy?
In therapy, the birth chart becomes a reference in parallel with therapy. I use the chart as a reflective resource not a predictive one. Astrology can help to explore strengths and vulnerabilities, themes that surface at different life stages, and the psychological tasks that may be catalysed and asking for attention.
The chart helps to see ‘the whole picture’, although the focus might be on one part that is highlighted by current life events. We would hold this alongside your lived experience and your therapeutic focus because you are always the expert on you.
Astrology is not a substitute for psychotherapy, medical care, or a mental health assessment, and I do not use it to make predictions or tell you what you should do. If you’d like me to prepare your birth chart, this is available for an additional fee; alternatively, we can work with a chart you already have.
